Plant and its Parts

Plants : Plants grow all around us. They are found in water as well as land. It has been estimated that there are about 2,50,000 types of plants. Based on the height, plant can be classified as herbs, shrubs and trees. There is another type of plantthat is different from herbs, shrub and trees. These palants have weak stems that cannot stand upright. Some of these spread outr on the ground, for example strawberry and are creeper. Other climb up with the help of support, for example grapevine and gourd. They are  called climbers.

Based on the presence or absence of flower they can be of two types : Flowering Plant and  Non - flowering plant.  

 Parts of a plant: A typical plant has different parts in its body. The parts of a plant are divided into two main parts:

  • 1. The Root system  : The part of the plant that grows under the ground is called the root system.It always grow towards the gravity and moisture, away  from the light.
  • 2. The Shoot system  : It is the main part of a plant that grows above the soil. It consists of the stem, leaves, flowers and fruits. Stem is avery important part of a plant upright. The stem of the tree is known as trunk. Most of the trunk are covered with a tough outer layer called bark. The part of the stem where leaf grows is called as node. The rergion of the stem between the two nodes is called as internode.
